Aave V4 is about to land on the Ethereum mainnet

The DeFi world welcomes another major upgrade.

The Aave community has just approved the ARFC proposal to activate Aave V4 on the Ethereum mainnet. This means that the next major version of the decentralized lending protocol Aave is about to officially launch.

This is an important milestone in the development of Aave.

What’s different in V4

V4 introduces a "Hub and Spoke" modular architecture.

Simply put: the Hub holds shared liquidity, while the Spoke defines specific lending environments with governance-constrained risk exposure.

What are the benefits of this approach?

1. More efficient liquidity — different spokes can share the same liquidity pool
2. More flexible risk isolation — each spoke can have different risk control parameters
3. Easier expansion — adding new asset types does not require rebuilding the entire system

The initial deployment plan sets up three hubs: Core, Prime, and Plus.

Supported assets include: AAVE, GHO, wstETH, weETH, cbBTC, USDC, USDT, LINK, XAUt, etc.

What’s the difference from V3

V3 was already very strong. TVL has long occupied the top of the DeFi lending charts and is the first choice for many users' borrowing needs.

But the problem with V3 is: the architecture is relatively fixed, and adding new assets requires a significant amount of development.

The modular design of V4 addresses this issue. In the future, if new asset categories need to be integrated, the process will be simpler.

Of course, V3 will not disappear immediately. At the launch of V4, it will run on a dedicated interface, allowing users to choose which version to use.

My assessment

The launch of Aave V4 is positive for the DeFi industry.

First, it proves that DeFi protocols can continue to innovate and iterate. Second, the modular architecture may become the industry standard, with other protocols likely to follow.

For the Aave token (AAVE), this should be a short to medium-term positive. V4 will bring more users and TVL growth.

However, the risk to note is: competition in DeFi is becoming increasingly fierce. Compound and Compound V3 are also vying for market share. Whether V4 can help Aave maintain its top position will depend on actual operational data.

For ordinary users, after V4 launches, they can experience the new features. But in lending operations, safety is always the top priority — do not put all your funds on the same platform.
