Walrus and the Unseen Cost of Data Retrieval
Most teams underestimate retrieval costs until they hit production. Uploading is cheap; fetching repeatedly is where cloud bills spike. Walrus approaches this differently by distributing data via erasure-coded blobs so no single operator becomes a bottleneck. Retrieval remains consistent because responsibility is shared rather than centralized. WAL incentives push providers to serve data instead of letting files rot in cold storage. That makes the storage economics predictable for apps that need to fetch content regularly rather than archive it once and forget.
