Cryptocurrency Is Traceable So Stand Against Fraud: EFCC Apprehends Kofoworola Kolawole in 993.2 Million Naira Foreign Exchange Case

It is a helpful reminder for everyone that digital currency transactions leave a clear trail, making it increasingly difficult to hide illicit financial activities. Highlighting this fact, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recently took action regarding a significant alleged foreign exchange scam. On March 30, 2026, the agency's Ilorin Zonal Directorate apprehended Kofoworola Motunrayo Kolawole, a 37-year-old company representative.

The investigation was triggered by a formal grievance lodged by Predictus Remit Limited, an affiliate of Fairmoney Microfinance Bank. The complaint detailed an incident dating back to November 25, 2025, where Kolawole, operating on behalf of DKK Partners Limited, reportedly took possession of exactly ₦993,247,796.70. This substantial sum was handed over under the agreement that it would be exchanged into $675,219.44 to facilitate a remittance transaction.

Unfortunately, the promised currency swap was never executed. Investigators suspect that the funds were instead deposited into a Providus Bank account before being converted into digital currency and funneled away for personal enrichment. The EFCC also indicated that Kolawole was not operating independently. Two directors of the company, Talukder Muhammed Khalidur Rahman and Duru Ogadima, are accused of collaborating in the fraudulent plot. Authorities are actively searching for both individuals, as they currently remain at large.

Once the authorities finalize their ongoing inquiries, the EFCC has confirmed that Kolawole will be presented before a court to face formal charges.
