President Trump says he will consider pardoning the CEO of the anonymous Bitcoin wallet software Samourai
๐ธ The two co-founders of Samourai Wallet, CEO Keonne Rodriguez and CTO William Lonergan Hill, were sentenced by a US federal court in New York in November 2025 for operating an unlicensed money transfer business. Keonne Rodriguez received a 5-year prison sentence and William Lonergan Hill received a 4-year sentence with mitigating circumstances due to age and an autism diagnosis.
๐ธ They were NOT convicted of money laundering and NOT directly involved in money laundering. Both pleaded guilty only to operating the wallet software in a plea deal, thus avoiding more serious money laundering charges that could have resulted in up to 20 years in prison.
๐ธ In addition to prison sentences, both were also given three years of probation, fined $250,000 each, and ordered to forfeit a total of over $6 million in fees collected by Samourai.
๐ธ Prosecutors argued that Samourai's security tools were used by criminals to conceal the source of over $237 million in illicit funds from illegal activities, the black market, and fraud. However, the sentences were based on violations of operating licenses, not on direct money laundering. #TrumpCrypto $BTC
๐บ๐ธ US DEBT WILL CONTINUE TO RISE DESPITE HIGH TARIFF COLLECTION
The US has collected over $200 billion in new tariffs in 2025 from tariffs imposed by President Trump. Of this, approximately $12 billion is intended to support farmers affected by the US-China trade war. President Trump also proposed a $2,000 tariff dividend for eligible Americans, funded from tariff revenue; however, this proposal is currently unsecured and requires congressional approval.
Additionally, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that American workers could receive large tax refunds of $1,000 to $2,000 per household in the first quarter of 2026. This is due to tax cuts under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, passed in July 2025, which many people haven't had time to adjust for tax deductions, leading to unexpected refunds and potentially boosting short-term spending.
The Big Beautiful Bill also entails significant government spending and budget deficits from 2026 onwards. This law includes large-scale tax cuts while increasing spending on defense, border security, and several federal programs. The act is expected to add approximately $3.4 trillion to U.S. public debt over the next 10 years, not including interest. The debt ceiling has also been raised by approximately $5 trillion, allowing the government to borrow more to implement these policies. $BTC #USNonFarmPayrollReport
Nasdaq is preparing to file legislation to extend intraday stock trading hours to 23 hours.
๐ธ The goal is to move closer to a near 24/7 trading model by the second half of 2026 if approved by the SEC. ๐ธ The market will be divided into two trading sessions with a one-hour break, but will still maintain the traditional opening and closing times from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM (NY time).
๐ธ This will make it easier for global investors to access the market and react more quickly to news.

๐ฏ๐ต THE TRUTH ABOUT YEN CARRY TRADE IN THE CURRENT CONTEXT
๐ธ With the Bank of Japan signaling a potential interest rate hike this week, concerns about yen carry trade have resurfaced.
๐ธ Yields on 10-year Japanese government bonds are at their highest level in 18 years, yet the yen remains weak. This suggests that carry trade persists. While JP Morgan estimates that over 50% of yen carry trade closed last year, some analysts suggest that approximately $500 billion in yen-backed carry trade still exists.
๐ธ Yen carry trade is a strategy of borrowing yen at low interest rates during periods when Japan maintains low interest rates, then investing in higher-yielding assets such as US stocks, emerging markets, and cryptocurrencies. When Japanese bonds pay higher interest rates than before, money is no longer forced to flow overseas to seek yields as it once was.
๐ธ It's true that Japanese interest rates are still much lower than US rates, so the likelihood of a widespread carry trade liquidation is low. However, the real risk lies in the decrease in demand for US bonds, forcing US bond yields to remain higher to compete, thereby putting pressure on interest rates across the market.
๐ธ Currently, the US 10-year yield is around 4.18%, much higher than the Japanese 10-year yield of around 1.96%. But when using a yen carry trade strategy, institutions must manage USD/JPY exchange rate risk, meaning they must hedge foreign exchange at a high cost, possibly around 2% per year, plus the risk of the Fed continuing to cut interest rates. After deducting hedging costs, the real yield is no longer attractive.
๐ธ If the Bank of Japan raises interest rates more aggressively, the cost of borrowing yen will increase, and investors may rush to liquidate their positions. This week's rate hike was anticipated by the market, but the key factor remains the BOJ Governor's tone regarding further rate increases. Coupled with news that the BOJ is preparing to sell its previously accumulated ETF holdings, this is making investors more cautious. #japan $BTC
๐ฏ๐ต JAPAN PLANS TO SELL $500 BILLION WORTH OF ETFS, BUT EXTREMELY SLOWLY
๐ธ Japan plans to gradually sell over $500 billion worth of ETFs held by its central bank.
๐ธ The selling pace will be very slow, approximately $2โ3 billion per year, meaning it could take over 100 years to sell them all. The slow selling aims to normalize monetary policy, shrink the balance sheet, and avoid shocking the market.
๐ธ The reason is that during years of economic stimulus, the Japanese central bank purchased large quantities of ETFs, distorting stock prices and failing to accurately reflect the health of businesses or the economy, as the central bank became the largest buyer in the market.
๐ธ The plan will be immediately halted if a major financial crisis occurs. Japan successfully applied this slow-motion approach when divesting bank stocks without causing market panic. #Japan $BTC
Pakistan is accelerating its digital asset and blockchain strategy at the national level. Recently, the Pakistani Ministry of Finance signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Binance to explore tokenizing up to $2 billion of state assets.
Under the agreement, Binance will provide technical advice and implementation models for bringing traditional assets onto the blockchain, including government bonds, treasury bills, and resources such as oil, gas, and metals. This MoU is not legally binding, and formal contracts will be reviewed within six months, following regulatory approval. #pakistanicrypto $BTC
Grayscale: Like Bitcoin, Bittensorโs native token, $TAO, follows a four-year halving cycle. The networkโs first halving is scheduled to occur in the next 5 days, reducing daily token issuance from approximately 7,200 TAO to 3,600 TAO.
Bittensor is seeing increased network adoption and institutional investment. Grayscale Research believes that the combination of the reduced TAO supply post-halving and increased TAO demand could act as a positive catalyst for the Bittensor ecosystem $TAO Short-term sales {future}(TAOUSDT)
Michael Saylor's Strategy (MSTR) retained its position in the Nasdaq 100 index (an index of the 100 largest and most influential companies on the Nasdaq exchange, excluding banks and financial companies), despite undergoing its annual restructuring with significant changes. This adjustment, effective December 22nd, removed six large companies and added three new ones, but Strategy was not removed.
Originally a software company, Strategy shifted its strategy in 2020 to accumulating Bitcoin. As a result, Strategy's stock price fluctuates sharply with Bitcoin's price, a far cry from its traditional business model.
This has sparked controversy, with many arguing that Strategy resembles a Bitcoin investment fund more than a technology company. Some organizations, such as MSCI, are considering removing companies of this type from their index. #MichealSylor $BTC
Do Kwon was sentenced to 15 years in prison yesterday. The judge handed down a harsher sentence than the prosecutor's recommendation. Do Kwon admitted to knowingly participating in a fraudulent scheme and actually defrauding buyers of the TerraUSD (UST) stablecoin.
