I keep getting stuck on this.
Everyone talks about reusable code as if that is where network effects naturally come from. But the more I watch Newton Protocol, the less convinced I am that code is the thing being reused.
What seems to travel further is the compliance decision itself.
An issuer checks something once. Evidence gets attached. An attestation is created. Then another relying party arrives later and quietly inherits that earlier work instead of rebuilding the same judgment from the beginning. The protocol is no longer repeating verification. It is repeating confidence.
That feels like a different kind of network effect.

Not because the evidence became magically stronger. Because the history became easier to surface.
I keep wondering if the scarce resource is no longer compliant code at all. Maybe it is reusable compliance knowledge that keeps accumulating across schemas, attestations, and relying parties until questioning becomes more expensive than inheritance.
Not broken cryptography.
Just institutional memory that learned how to move between systems without starting over every single time.
