Most conversations in crypto seem to follow the same path. People compare prices discuss market cycles or argue about which blockchain will attract the most users. There is nothing wrong with those discussions but I have found myself thinking about something different. The longer I spend reading about this industry the more I realize that the strongest systems are often built on infrastructure that most people never notice. It rarely becomes the center of attention yet it quietly shapes everything built on top of it.
One question has stayed with me for a while. Blockchain networks have become very good at settling transactions. They can move value across the world in a transparent and decentralized way. That is an impressive achievement. Still I keep wondering what happens before a transaction reaches that point. In traditional finance there are several steps before money is transferred. Identity is verified. Risk is assessed. Fraud checks run in the background. Different rules are applied depending on the transaction.
