At Sydney’s Bondi Beach, two gunmen opened fire on people gathered to celebrate the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah, turning a family-friendly event into one of Australia’s deadliest recent attacks.
Police say the attackers were 24-year-old Naveed Akram and his father, Sajid, aged 50. The father-son duo killed at least 15 people and injured around 40 others.
Despite Australia cracking down on firearms after the 1996 Port Arthur massacre, the pair legally owned six guns.
Sajid had held a firearms license since 2015, allowing him to legally own the registered “long arms” used in the attack, police said.
Sajid, who was killed in a shootout with police, held a recreational hunting license and belonged to a gun club, reigniting debate over gaps in Australia’s firearm regulations.
🚨#BREAKING A Sydney attacker in Australia was a former member of Lashkar-e-Taiba
Assessments by Australia’s domestic intelligence agency (ASIO) indicate that a Pakistani attacker in Sydney, Naveed Akram, had links with an ISIS cell in Sydney about six years ago, in October 2019, and had pledged allegiance to the group. At that time, police had also conducted investigations into him.
According to available information, Naveed Akram maintained close ties with an individual known as Matari, who claims to be the head of ISIS’s Australia branch and is currently serving a seven-year prison sentence for involvement with the group.
In addition, recent information suggests that the attacker had previously spent time at a military facility in Pakistan, which is believed to be linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba.
The attack carried out in Sydney by Naveed Akram, a former member of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, has further reinforced reports and assessments indicating close links between Lashkar-e-Taiba and ISIS. #BreakingNews #Sydney #BondiBeach #australia #bondibeach #Attack
Perfect decision by Sydney Muslim leaders to say they will refuse to perform funeral rites or receive the bodies of the Bondi shooters. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
This is a strong, principled stance. In Islam, martyrdom cannot come through murder, and funeral rites signify good standing as a believer. By denying those rites, Muslim leaders make clear that such acts bring no honour, no reward, and no path to Paradise, stripping extremists of their false religious narrative.
A White Georgia couple terrorized a Black family at a child’s birthday party by driving past with Confederate flags and shouting threats. A judge ruled it a hate crime. Joe Torres got 20 years, and Kyla Norton got 15. Hate has consequences.

A local detective from Bondi, no body armour, no long arm rifle, exposed himself from behind a tree and did what he needed to do from approximately 40metres away he took out Sajid Akrim.
His colleagues have labelled his shot a ‘once in a lifetime shot’.
Furious Australians are demanding remigration after two suspected Muslim terrorists opened fire on a Jewish event at Bondi Beach, leaving at least 12 dead.
Actor Sacha Baron Cohen pays tribute to the victims of the Bondi Beach terror attack:
“It could be your family, your child. No one should die because of their faith. May their memory be a blessing—and a light toward tolerance and peace.“
Shout out to the #bondi beach life guard who, while there was shots being fired and we were all ducking for cover behind their buggy, noticed someone in the water struggling so grabbed a board and went to rescue them
