  • The campaign, based purely on crypto donations, successfully raised a total of  $117,210 in USDT – all of which has been donated to the Taiwan Foundation for Disaster Relief to support recovery and rebuilding efforts.

In response to the devastating flood triggered by the collapse of the Mataian River barrier lake in Hualien County, Binance Charity, in a joint crypto donation initiative with the Taiwan Association for Blockchain Ecosystem Innovation (TABEI), has raised a total of $117,210 (equivalent to NTD 3,571,631 after conversion from USDT) to support the post-disaster relief efforts. The crypto-based model opened a new path for digital giving in Taiwan and marked a step forward in applying blockchain technology to philanthropy.

Crypto for a Cause

The initiative is based on stablecoins contributions. All collected USDT are converted to New Taiwan Dollars via a local virtual-asset service provider, then transferred to the Taiwan Foundation for Disaster Relief’s dedicated bank account in a transparent and compliant way.

Taka Kao, Chairperson of Taiwan Association for Blockchain Ecosystem Innovation, commented: “Charity knows no borders — just as blockchain transcends geographic boundaries. Through the collaboration with Binance Charity, we hope to integrate blockchain technologies into Taiwan’s philanthropic landscape. This not only offers tangible support to those in need, but also opens new possibilities for crypto‑driven giving in Taiwan.”

This model of charitable giving establishes a new pathway for crypto donations in Taiwan and sets an important precedent for incorporating blockchain technology into its charitable sector.

Joining Forces to Accelerate Recovery

Within days of the disaster, Binance Charity initiated discussions with the TABEI and committed to contributing USD $100,000 to launch the project of supporting recovery in Guangfu Township.

Furthermore, multiple institutions and individuals joined the effort and participated in the donation drive, raising $17,210 — a demonstration of the cohesion and charitable spirit of the blockchain and crypto community in times of crisis.

Binance’s CEO Richard Teng said: “We extend our deepest sympathies to the families of the victims and we hope those affected can soon return to normal life. Recovery after such disasters requires sustained support and attention from all sectors of society. Through concrete action, we hope to mobilize resources and offer solace to victims, helping the affected areas rebuild as soon as possible.”

The campaign raised a total of  $117,210, all of which was donated to the 0923 Hualien Mataian River Landslide Lake Disaster Fundraising Project managed by the Taiwan Ministry of Health and Welfare’s Foundation for Disaster Relief.

On top of this initiative, Binance Charity will separately allocate an additional USD $ 100,000 to provide subsidies for volunteers who participated in debris clearance. These subsidies will be distributed through an application process.

Final Thoughts

The Binance Charity and Taiwan Association for Blockchain Ecosystem Innovation’s joint crypto donation campaign for Hualien flood relief highlights how blockchain can accelerate disaster recovery, foster trust, and unite diverse communities in times of crisis, setting a compelling precedent for future charitable endeavors in Taiwan and worldwide.
