🌍👑The largest rough diamond ever found in Africa, the Cullinan, was cut into several stones, some of which adorn the British crown, the royal scepter, and other jewels in the royal collection.
The Cullinan, the largest rough diamond ever found, was extracted from South Africa in 1905. During the colonial period, it was offered to King Edward VII as a gesture of "reconciliation" after the war.
At the time, the black workers of the mine, who had discovered it, were paid a pittance and had no rights over the stones.
During the coronation of Charles III, South Africa demands the restitution of Cullinan I, or "Star of Africa," set in the royal scepter. Discovered in 1905 under British rule, this 530-carat diamond was offered to King Edward VII. South Africans are calling for it to be displayed in a national museum.
