The most concerning thing has happened: The first major security incident in the DeFi space caused by code written using AI has occurred. Moonwell (a lending protocol on Base and Optimism) faced massive bad debt due to an oracle configuration error.
What exactly happened?
It all originated from the execution of the MIP-X43 governance proposal, part of whose code was written by the AI model Claude Opus. When updating the Chainlink OEV wrapper, the AI made a low-level error, setting the oracle price of cbETH to $1 (while the actual price was around $2200).
