I lost money on a futures position this year and I want to share what I learned because I think most people make the same mistakes I did.
I entered too big, I did not set a stop loss because I was confident, and when the price moved against me I held on hoping it would come back instead of cutting the loss small.
By the time I exited I had lost three times more than I needed to.
The position itself was not even wrong in the long run, the price eventually moved where I expected, but I had already been liquidated before it got there.
I discovered something important that day, being right about direction and making money are two completely different things in futures trading, size and timing matter more than being right and most people learn that lesson the expensive way. 📊
