Sei Labs has called on exchanges and custodians supporting SSEI to complete the EVM integration by June 15, 2026.
After that, the old functionality of Cosmos/IBC will be gradually phased out.
• The main point from the team is simple:
Sei EVM is not a separate network. It’s the same Sei, just with a different way of interaction.
This means that platforms currently treating "Sei" and "Sei EVM" as two separate integrations need to merge them into one. In fact, SEI is continuing its shift to a unified EVM-only architecture ahead of the Giga upgrade.
Let me explain why I’m highlighting this.
EVM is the most widely adopted standard for developers in crypto.
If SEI successfully completes this transition, the project will be easier for exchanges, applications, liquidity providers, developers, and new users.
By 2026, the transition has already been taking place step by step:
> In January, EVM staking was added
> In February, incoming IBC transfers were disabled
> In March, the native oracle was replaced with Chainlink, Pyth, and APIS
In my opinion, this is not a minor technical update.
It’s an attempt by SEI to become a clearer, unified, and scalable infrastructure for the next cycle.
