๐จ URGENT: Theft of US$ 21 million at Hyperliquid exposes critical private key security flaw ๐งต
๐๏ธ 10/10/2025 | DeFi Security
๐ What happened?
The blockchain security company PeckShield revealed that a wallet linked to the Hyperliquid platform was drained in a single move, totaling losses of around US$ 21 million in crypto assets.
๐ The funds included:
๐ช 17.75M DAI
๐งช 3.11M MSYRUPUSDP
๐ง Cause of the attack:
โก๏ธ Leakage of the victim's private key, it was not a failure in the Hyperliquid protocol.
โก๏ธ The hacker moved the funds to Ethereum, splitting them among various addresses to complicate tracking (a tactic known as chain-hopping + obfuscation of traces).
๐ Lesson for all crypto users:
Even with increasingly secure smart contracts, the user's personal security is still the weakest link.
โ ๏ธ Compromising your private key = losing everything.
๐ก๏ธ Security recommendations:
โ๏ธ Use hardware wallets (cold wallets)
โ๏ธ Avoid storing private keys online
โ๏ธ Never share seed phrases, not even for "support"
โ๏ธ Use multi-factor authentication (MFA) whenever possible
โ๏ธ Review your on-chain permissions regularly
๐ This hack is a red alert for everyone who relies solely on hot wallets.
