According to Odaile, Singapore's Minister of State for Home Affairs, Sun Xiu Ling, reaffirmed the government's commitment to combating fraud during the parliamentary budget discussion on Tuesday. She emphasized the need to enhance existing measures, regulations, and education to combat fraud, particularly in response to cryptocurrency-related scams. Last year, cryptocurrency-related fraud accounted for a quarter of total financial losses due to fraud. Fraudsters have adapted to increased banking scrutiny by directing victims to convert funds into cryptocurrencies before transferring them, allowing them to evade detection. Additionally, some fraudsters have stolen assets directly from victims' cryptocurrency wallets. In response to the ongoing fraud problem, the Ministry of Home Affairs is considering the use of corporal punishment as a penalty for severe fraud crimes.
