Solana surpasses XRP to become the fifth largest digital asset
SOL gained 12% in one day versus the overall cryptocurrency market gains of 3%.
Solana $SOL reported a market capitalization of $35.1 billion. $XRP, the cryptocurrency associated with Ripple, reported a market capitalization of $33.2 billion.
Solana's high position in the market appears to be due to its own exceptional performance rather than XRP's losses. XRP rose just 1.86% in 24 hours, very much in line with the average market-wide gains of 2.8%. SOL, on the other hand, far outperformed the average by gaining 12.03% in 24 hours.
The reasons for Solana's latest price increases are unclear, although they appear to be based on long-term growth. The price of SOL has been gradually rising since at least October, meaning notable events like the launch of Solana's GameShift suite, FTX wealth transfers involving the SOL token, and the hype around the BONK-based memecoin Solana have coincided with its recent growth.
