US President Donald Trump (Republican Party) said the launch of China’s DeepSeek AI tool is a “wake-up call” for US tech companies in the global race to dominate artificial intelligence.
DeepSeek built its R1 chatbot with lower production costs than competitors OpenAI, ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini. The tool wiped $$ 1 trillion in value from the main US technology index on Monday (27.Jan. 2025), according to The Guardian.
Nvidia, a leading computer chipmaker, reported a loss of $$ 600 billion in market value, the biggest one-day drop in US stock market history. “The launch of DeepSeek, an AI from a Chinese company, should be a wake-up call to our industries that we need to be focused on competing to win,” Trump said.
