Worldcoin leaves behind iris scanning and adopts a new identity verification method
Worldcoin, now simply rebranded as World, has decided to move away from its controversial verification method based on iris scanning. Instead, it has introduced World ID Credentials, a system that allows for identity confirmation using NFC-enabled passports.
✅ This change aims to increase platform adoption, allowing more users to register without needing to visit an Orb. Currently, the system is available in the U.S., Malaysia, and the United Kingdom, with plans to expand to more countries in the coming weeks.
✅ Additionally, Worldcoin has announced World ID Deep Face, a tool focused on combating deepfakes, allowing video call applications to verify that users are human. They have also developed AMPC (Anonymous Multi-Party Computation), a security protocol backed by the University of Nuremberg and UC Berkeley, ensuring decentralized and anonymous management of identity data.
📈 With these changes, Worldcoin seeks to strengthen privacy, improve accessibility, and bolster digital security in an increasingly threatened world by misinformation and identity theft.
