YGG co-founder Beryl Li and YGG Future of Work (FoW) head Trish Rosal attended the Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence and Cognitive Technology Conference (ACTAI APAC) summit held from February 5 to 9, 2025, on the scenic coastline of Pangulasan Island, Philippines.

The Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence and Cognitive Technology Conference (ACTAI) events are invitation-only gatherings aimed at promoting innovation. These events bring together a carefully selected group of influential figures, including entrepreneurs, scientists, investors, artists, and athletes, to create an environment that inspires collaboration and drives the next wave of technological breakthroughs.

With the momentum of the Future of Work (FoW) project and the recent release of the Metaverse Filipino Worker (MFW) short film, the Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence and Cognitive Technology Conference (ACTAI APAC) provided YGG with a key opportunity to engage in broader discussions about leveraging Web3 and AI for societal benefit.

Preparing for the AI Era

At a critical juncture in YGG's development, the Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence and Cognitive Technology Conference (ACTAI) is once again held in the Philippines, marking the second occurrence since 2023. In October 2024, YGG launched its Future of Work (FoW) business segment, expanding its scope beyond the gaming industry. Under the leadership of Trish Rosal, the Future of Work (FoW) has since supported a wider range of Web3 applications that empower people economically within its ecosystem.

"The purpose of our Future of Work project is to eliminate various barriers so that it is no longer limited to the West, East, or Filipinos," Trish stated during an interview for this article, "No matter where you are, you can be your most authentic self and participate in the global economy at the same time."

For years, large tech companies have often outsourced work to Filipino workers, especially for the massive content moderation tasks required to keep platforms like Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and TikTok running smoothly. This work often involves providing human feedback to optimize the AI-driven moderation algorithms of these platforms.

However, as artificial intelligence models become more advanced, these jobs will also require more advanced skills. Beryl raised an important question while reflecting on her experience at the Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence and Cognitive Technology Conference (ACTAI APAC): "If we enhance the skills of Filipinos to prepare them for the AI era, what skills should we equip them with?"

Filipino talent stands at the forefront of the times.

On the first night of this week-long event, a private screening of the Metaverse Filipino Worker (MFW) short film allowed guests at the Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence and Cognitive Technology Conference (ACTAI) to witness a series of real stories shared by members of the YGG Filipino community, who were able to find new opportunities in the Web3 space without leaving their homes in the Philippines, and participate in the global decentralized digital economy. To better introduce this short film, Emfarsis director Leah Callon-Butler, who is the writer, narrator, and director of the film, joined Beryl and Trish on Pangulasan Island.

The atmosphere at the event was inspiring, with attendees moved by heartwarming stories of determination and ambition, reminding them that they have the right and motivation to create better opportunities to help break economic barriers. This laid the foundation for the broader theme of the Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence and Cognitive Technology Conference (ACTAI APAC) on "the role of AI in bringing meaningful change to humanity."

The Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence and Cognitive Technology Conference (ACTAI), founded by renowned investor Bill Tai, is a community of athletes, conservationists, technology experts, artists, and innovators dedicated to using technology as a force for good. ACTAI's international events and startup competitions (such as the Extreme Tech Challenge) provide support to numerous companies, including the now-popular graphic design tool Canva.

The venture capital fund co-founded by Bill Tai and Amanda Terry in 2021, ACTAI, has also invested in Web3 projects such as OLA GG and Metagood, as well as AI companies like Gigaverse.

From Gaming to Social Responsibility

During the main agenda session of the Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence and Cognitive Technology Conference (ACTAI APAC) summit, Beryl participated in a speech titled "How Web3 and AI Redefine the Fun of Gaming, Entertainment, and Community Engagement." In the session, she discussed with Mootiez co-founder and former COO of Animoca Brands Arnoldo Concepcion, Metagood co-founder and ACTAI venture capital managing partner Amanda Terry, FlickPlay CEO Pierina Merino, and host/Coindesk venture capital head Paula Taylor about how YGG is positioned at the intersection of these emerging technologies.

In her speech, Beryl discussed the integration of on-chain unions with the YGG task platform and the Guild Advancement Program (GAP), as well as the potential applications of AI that YGG hopes to explore. GAP tasks allow the YGG community to earn rewards while exploring new games and projects within the YGG ecosystem. With the incorporation of on-chain guilds into the platform, YGG can better understand the interests and skills of the community, linking guilds to economic opportunities that best match their verified expertise.

"Beryl stated during her speech: 'The social graph is the most important part here. If you have these social graphs, you will know what games you are playing, how much money you are earning in games, how long you have been a gamer, and all these details. Once you have these, you can potentially gain new, uncategorized nodes. You can build a lot on the foundation of the social graph.'"

In Beryl's view, human input is crucial for technologies like artificial intelligence. Participating in the Future of Work (FoW) tasks has given YGG community members firsthand experience, serving as the "human in the loop" necessary for the continuous advancement of the artificial intelligence ecosystem.

"I believe all companies will have to become AI companies," Beryl stated during her speech, "With blockchain technology, it enables certain things to happen on top of artificial intelligence."

Other exclusive meetings at this summit include:

  • A fireside chat on the state of the AI revolution by Bill Tai and Carolina Casas Forga from Sangha Capital.

  • An in-depth discussion on the on-chain RPG game Gigaverse led by legendary hard rock band Guns N' Roses former drummer and co-founder Matt Sorum.

  • The ACTAI Global AI Tech Competition, judged by Google Maps founder Lars Rasmussen, ACMobility CEO Jaime Alfonso Zobel de Ayala, Dispersion Capital founder Patrick Chang, Ayala Land VP Mariana Zobel de Ayala, and 26North Managing Director Neel Joshi.

As the Future of Work (FoW) continues to foster a fair competitive environment through artificial intelligence and other new technologies integrated with Web3, many Filipinos will also be able to participate in its future development process. Artificial intelligence and Web3 are the work models of the future. YGG is at the forefront of this movement, calling for other countries around the world to follow suit.
