Alt Season is coming. According to analysts from the cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase, the altcoin season (or Alt Season) is about to start. In fact, Bitcoin's (BTC) dominance has reached its lowest level in over six months, while Ethereum (ETH) has approached its ATH (all-time highs) near 4800 dollars, and many altcoins have seen double-digit increases in just a few days.
Key points of this article:
Coinbase announced that the altcoin season, or Alt Season, could begin soon, as Bitcoin's dominance has decreased.
Coinbase analysts have observed that the Fed's rate cuts could accelerate individual investor participation in the altcoin market.
Is Alt Season about to begin? Coinbase is convinced.
According to a report from Coinbase published on August 14, 2025, current market conditions suggest a potential shift towards a true new altcoin season as we approach next September. Analysts from the cryptocurrency exchange define Alt Season as a period where at least 75% of the top 50 altcoins outperform Bitcoin over the previous 90 days.
David Duong, global head of research at Coinbase Institutional, stated that there are still large reserves of capital to invest, particularly from individuals, and that the Fed's rate cuts could mark the start of Alt Season, rather than just a euphoric (and short) market top.
« Many have debated whether a rate cut by the Fed in September could represent a market top for cryptocurrencies. We do not think so. With significant private capital placed in money market funds (over 7 trillion dollars) and elsewhere, we believe that the Fed's monetary easing could encourage greater participation from individuals in the medium term. »
