$BTC Today (February 6, 2026) the Crypto Fear & Greed Index is in the range of 5–11 — this is Extreme Fear, one of the deepest zones of panic in recent years. BTC is trading around $65,000–67,000, but many are in complete horror.
During periods of fear, most investors make the same 7 fatal mistakes (and how to avoid them):
Panic Selling
Everyone thinks: ‘everything has collapsed’ — and sells at the bottom. Then the price bounces back, and they remain in the red.
What to do: If you are a long-term investor — now is the worst time to sell. Keep DCA (dollar-cost averaging).
‘This time it’s different’
‘Crypto is dead’, ‘regulators will destroy everything’ etc. History shows: after every major crash, a new ATH comes.
React only to news
FUD is pouring in — today ‘ETF rejected’, tomorrow ‘new law’. Emotional trading = losses.
Play with leverage and get liquidated
In Extreme Fear, volatility is insane. Those who entered at 10x–20x often get wiped out in 1–2 hours.
‘It got cheaper — I buy everything’ and invest all capital at once
The price can drop another 20–30%. This is called ‘catching a falling knife’ — very dangerous.
Do not diversify the portfolio
Holding everything in one altcoin or meme coin usually ends poorly in 90% of cases.
Psychological burnout (capitulation)
At the very bottom to say ‘that’s it, I’m out’ and leave — is a classic mistake. Often, it is at this moment that the strongest growth begins.
