Wang Enlin, who quit school in third grade, spent nearly 16 years teaching himself law to sue a state-owned company that polluted 70 acres of farmland.
He traded corn for legal books. His effort paid off: in 2017, the court ordered the company to pay 820,000 yuan (about $119,000) to 55 families. The company has appealed the decision, but Wang remains unfazed.
