The Iranian government announced a 40-day national mourning period for the 86-year-old Ayatollah, referring to him as a "martyr." Khamenei had led Iran for over 36 years, and his death immediately triggered a power vacuum and succession crisis, with no clear succession plan in place.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated that the "most intense" offensive actions against Israeli and U.S. military bases are about to begin. Following the U.S.-Israeli military operation "Epic Fury" against Iran on February 28, Iran retaliated with ballistic missiles and drones targeting U.S. and Israeli positions, with debris affecting Arab countries including the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan.
