๐น What happens when we reach 21 million BTC?
When the last Bitcoin is mined (expected around the year 2140):
โ No new Bitcoins will be created.
โ๏ธ The mining reward (Block Reward) becomes = 0 BTC.
This means: ๐ There will be no new coins for miners to earn.
๐น So why will mining continue?
Because miners will receive another type of profit:
โ Transaction fees (Transaction Fees)
Every Bitcoin transfer has a small fee paid by the user.
After 2140:
Users pay the fees.
Miners receive these fees only for confirming transactions.
๐ก The network will live on fees instead of creating new coins.
๐น A simple example
Today the miner's income =
๐ช New coins + ๐ฐ Transaction fees
In the future =
๐ฐ Transaction fees only
๐น Can an ordinary person mine Bitcoin then?
Theoretically yes, but practically:
Mining requires very powerful devices now.
Large companies dominate most of the mining.
Profits depend only on the fees.
โ In summary:
After reaching 21 million BTC โ There is no new Bitcoin to mine.
โ Mining continues to earn transaction fees only.
The network continues to operate normally.
