Directed by an Oscar-winning team, Zhao Changpeng narrates the turbulent history of the crypto world over fifteen years
Streaming giant Netflix recently announced that the three-part documentary 'I Am History' will exclusively premiere worldwide in January 2027. The film is directed by Oscar-winning director Alex Gibney and features music by Hans Zimmer, presenting a complete account of the crypto industry's journey from obscurity to mainstream through the personal experiences of former Binance CEO Zhao Changpeng (CZ).
'This is not a biographical film, but a work that lets history speak for itself,' said the head of Netflix's documentary department. 'When CZ says, “I am history,” he has become one of the most important witnesses of this era.'
The film is divided into three episodes: 'Genesis Block' tells the story of CZ's early years from selling his Shanghai property to founding Binance; 'Moon Landing' focuses on the key battles and decisions during Binance's rise; 'Trial and Rebirth' reveals for the first time the details of the courtroom battle in Seattle and 137 days of diary entries from jail. The entire film uses Unreal Engine 5 to recreate historical scenes, with key frames being minted as NFTs permanently on the blockchain.
All proceeds from the documentary, after deducting production costs, will be fully donated to the public welfare education platform Giggle Academy initiated by CZ, aimed at digital literacy education for impoverished children worldwide.
