I will be honest: I first started caring about this when I noticed how quickly people stop asking “is it correct?” and start asking “is it defensible?” It happened on a rollout call. A team had a solid technical plan, but the sticking point was weirdly procedural: if the agent changes routing decisions on-site, who signs for that change? And what happens when a partner’s compliance team asks for proof six months later?
That’s the shape of the problem when autonomous robots and AI agents operate across organizations. The system becomes a shared workflow, but responsibility still gets enforced like it’s a single-owner product. Decisions get made by a chain: vendor ships a model, integrator tunes it, customer ops overrides it, safety team adjusts policy, regulator audits outcomes. Nothing is “one decision.” It’s a stack of micro-decisions that accumulate into behavior.
Most current approaches feel incomplete because they’re built on tools that don’t agree with each other. Logs are local. Tickets are editable. Emails are ambiguous. And people behave predictably: they cut corners during outages, they document after the fact, and they avoid writing things down when it increases liability. So when something goes wrong, you don’t get a timeline. You get competing narratives.
@Fabric Foundation Protocol only matters to me as infrastructure for making narratives less powerful than records. A shared, checkable way to verify who approved what across org boundaries could lower audit costs, reduce settlement friction, and make deployments less political.
The first real users are the ones already living in risk: healthcare, logistics, public deployments, insurers. It might work if it’s easier than the current mess. It fails if it’s optional, or if the incentives still reward keeping the true decision trail private.
