In the past week, Trump has pressured the EU, G7 countries, and NATO member states to strengthen energy sanctions against Russia, as well as impose tariffs of 50% to 100% on China and India for their purchases of Russian oil.
However, China also has countermeasures, as 70% of the rare earths that the United States relies on are imported from China. After China implemented export controls on rare earths, the U.S. defense industry fell into "raw material anxiety"; imposing tariffs will only hurt both sides.
