The Midnight network handles the governance and utility of tokens through two distinctly different components:

· NIGHT (Governance and Generating Assets): As the native token of the network, it is public and transferable. The total supply is fixed at 24 billion tokens, with deflationary properties. Holders can stake to protect the network and participate in governance voting. Its core utility is the continuous generation of DUST, creating sustained on-chain demand for NIGHT.

· DUST (Privacy Consumables): This is a protected, non-transferable digital resource. Users use it to pay for gas fees for transaction execution and zero-knowledge proof computations. DUST decays and regenerates over time, decoupling the cost of network usage from the market price fluctuations of NIGHT, providing enterprise users with predictable compliance operation costs. Due to its non-transferable nature, it inherently possesses resistance to censorship and MEV (Maximum Extractable Value).

2. Token supply, distribution, and market performance

· Total supply: Fixed at 24 billion tokens, of which about 16.6 billion are in circulation on the market.

· Distribution mechanism (Glacier Airdrop): Adopts an innovative phased airdrop model aimed at achieving widespread and fair community distribution, covering over 34 million eligible addresses across 8 major mainstream chains including Cardano, Bitcoin, and Ethereum, making it one of the largest airdrops in cryptocurrency history. In terms of distribution ratio, 50% is allocated to the Cardano community, 20% to multi-chain, and 30% for ecosystems and strategic partners.

· Vesting and unlocking: To avoid supply shocks, claimed tokens will use a "freeze-thaw" mechanism, unlocking randomly on four occasions (25% released every 90 days) within 360 days. This means that major unlocking windows will occur at the end of March and June 2026, potentially leading to sustained selling pressure.

· Market price: The NIGHT token will launch on December 9, 2025, with an opening price of about $0.1, and a historical maximum price reaching $0.1183. After an initial price discovery, its price has retreated. As of March 2026, the number of token holding addresses has exceeded 57,000, and the market capitalization once approached $870 million.

3. Roadmap and short-term catalysts (0-6 months)

The Midnight mainnet is progressing as planned, which will be a key phase in validating its technical capabilities:

· Current phase (Kūkolu - Emei Moon): In the first quarter of 2026, privacy-enhanced dApps will go live, and developers will begin deploying applications, showcasing programmable privacy models.

· Next phase (Mōhalu - First Quarter Moon): Expected in the second quarter of 2026, the network will achieve operational decentralization. Stake Pool Operators (SPO) will go live, and most importantly, the DUST Capacity Exchange will be activated, allowing DUST to circulate, regenerate, and support masked metadata operations. The launch of the mainnet and the activation of DUST functionality will be key indicators to observe early adoption.

4. Mid to long-term value drivers and risks

· Catalysts: Mid to long-term value depends on whether developers adopt its "Compact" programming language (based on TypeScript) to build privacy dApps, and whether regulated enterprises (such as finance and healthcare) adopt its "selective disclosure" data protection solutions. Confirmed ecosystem partners include Fireblocks, Copper, Blockchain.com, and Google Cloud, providing infrastructure for institutional entry.

· Core risks:

· Unlocking pressure: Despite a smooth release mechanism, the quarterly unlocking of tokens remains a structural headwind, and sustained price increases require new demand to exceed the growth rate of supply.

· Regulatory uncertainty: Although designed to separate the value layer from the privacy layer, the privacy protection features themselves may still be subject to strict scrutiny in different jurisdictions.

· Execution risk: The zero-knowledge proof technology stack is complex, and delays in the mainnet functionality may affect the pace of ecosystem development.
