Most systems look quite decent in favorable conditions. The rules are clear, the paths are fixed, and the participants are all within a predefined range. As long as the input standards, process standards, and result standards are met, many things appear to go smoothly, even to the point that one might mistakenly believe this structure is sufficiently mature. However, recently when I revisited @SignOfficial, the judgment that arose in my mind was completely in a different direction. I increasingly feel that the true limit of a system is often not whether it can run the standard process smoothly, but whether it will immediately get stuck or even revert to manual processing when it encounters situations that are "not so standard."

Once reality gets a bit messy or complicated, it starts to hesitate, begin explanations, seek decisions, and repeatedly clarify. At this point, you realize it hasn't genuinely absorbed complexity.

I'm increasingly skeptical of systems that only prove themselves in standardized scenarios. Because anyone can run in standard conditions, even many low-spec systems can do it. Writing paths in a rigid way, tightening rules, and clarifying boundaries can make the process look very smooth. But the most valuable and tricky parts of the real world are precisely these neatly organized scenarios. In truly complex systems, what ultimately counts isn't how fast the standard processes run but whether they can handle exceptions. Just because you can process a hundred textbook inputs doesn't mean you can manage a real-world scenario where the boundaries are blurred but must continue moving forward. The real limits of a system are often measured by these 'non-standard people and things'.

This is also how I currently understand SIGN. In my eyes, it's not about adding a prettier shell to the system, nor is it just about creating another verification tool or recording tool. I'd rather see it as filling in the layer of 'how exceptions don't have to rely entirely on temporary fixes'. Who counts as an exception, to what degree, how can we continue moving forward, which steps can be established first, which must have conditions added, which results need to be retained, and which relationships need confirmation—these things have often not been structured properly before, relying instead on human oversight, decision-making, platform trust, and on-the-spot explanations. On the surface, the process may seem runnable, but once it encounters boundary situations, the system quickly appears heavy because it hasn't truly integrated these non-standard situations into its structure.

I've come to realize that what complex systems truly fear isn't a lack of rules but that the rules only apply to the most ideal situations. Reality isn't a standardized form; it's more like a pile of raw inputs. This person has some qualifications but not complete ones; that process is halfway done but still lacks a segment of context; this confirmation stands in this system but may not directly transfer to another. If every time you encounter such a situation, you have to pull people in for meetings, reassess, reclarify, and manually patch, then that system, no matter how big, is just a 'people pile' structure, not a truly scalable structure. Just because it can run doesn't mean it can scale; just because it can cope doesn't mean it has limits.

So when I look at SIGN now, what I'm really focused on isn't whether it can optimize standard processes a little more, but whether it can allow those scenarios that break easily or require manual intervention at the boundaries to slowly start being structurally supported. This direction is tough and particularly unappealing. Because exceptions aren't suited to be turned into a catchy slogan. It's hard to ignite emotions with expressions like 'we make gray areas less gray', and it's equally hard to present this capability with a set of particularly beautiful numbers. Standard processes are easy to showcase because they have clear results, attractive paths, and neat metrics; but exceptions are inherently chaotic, vague, and filled with context. What you need to handle isn't a standard answer but a pile of realities that can't stop and can't rigidly apply standard answers.

Because of this, such things are particularly easy to underestimate in the early stages. The market usually prefers to look at standardized metrics, unified inputs and outputs, growth curves, and explosive rhythms. But what can truly sustain long-term value is often not these easily showcased parts but the system's ability to handle gray areas, atypical situations, and boundary cases. Because if a standard process can run, it means you can create a 'flat land'; if you can also handle exceptions, it shows you have 'terrain'. Many projects that look decent in the early stages do so because they only prove themselves in the most manageable scenarios; but once irregular real-world inputs flood in, the entire system quickly loses shape.

From a trader's perspective, I won't get too hyped about this direction too quickly, nor will I rush in just because it sounds solid. The reason is simple: this ability isn't sexy in the early stages, and short-term pricing isn't necessarily easy. It's not about whether there's an emotional tipping point, but whether the system can avoid slipping back into the manual era. The former is easy to discuss, easy to hype, and can quickly form consensus; the latter is slow, hidden, and not easily explained in just one or two sentences. But precisely because of this, I won't easily overlook it. The ones that can simplify complex systems are often not just those that handle favorable conditions but those that can gradually incorporate exceptions into the rules. Whoever can achieve this will have a better chance of developing reuse rates, dependencies, and irreplaceability over time.

So when I keep an eye on SIGN, there are actually three things I really watch. First, whether it has entered those naturally non-standard, multi-boundary, multi-participant scenarios, rather than just staying in the cleanest processes; second, whether it's actually reducing the manual judgment cost of exceptional situations, allowing areas that originally needed human input to gradually become structurally manageable; and third, what is ultimately left behind—smoother processes or more 'we need to explain this again'. If it's just making the standard process prettier, I won't see much rarity in that; but if it can truly start to integrate those exceptions that are most likely to jam up the system bit by bit, then it's touching on something deeper.

So ultimately, when I look at SIGN, I'm not just focused on whether it runs smoothly in standard processes. What I really want to see is if it can gradually incorporate those 'non-standard people and things' that are most likely to distort the system. Because what often determines a system's limits isn't how it handles the simplest cases but whether it loses shape when faced with exceptions. Standard processes can only prove you can walk; it's the exceptional cases that reveal whether you have a backbone. For me, the real worth of SIGN lies not in whether it can present a more complete story but in whether it can genuinely leave a structure in those hardest-to-explain, most non-standard, and easiest-to-fall-back-to-manual-processing areas.
