@Boundless uses zkVM (developed by RISC Zero) so that heavy computations can be done off-chain, with the proofs verified on-chain. This helps reduce gas costs / chain costs, improve scalability, and allows for more expressive computations without increasing the size of the base chain. Since the heavy lifting is done off-chain, it alleviates the burden on main chains.
