Remember: on February 14, 2025, Javier Milei posts a tweet. He recommends to his followers to buy a new token, the $LIBRA, presented as a funding tool for small Argentine businesses. In a few hours, the crypto skyrockets, then crashes. Result: 114,000 wallets affected and about 250 million dollars in losses. In the world of crypto, this mechanism has a name: the rug pull. Early buyers sell at the peak they caused, and others are left with tokens that are worth almost nothing.

Since the beginning of the scandal, Javier Milei has always claimed that he had nothing to do with it: he did not know LIBRA; he simply shared a project that appealed to him, thinking it aimed to support small businesses and local startups. On May 21, he even had the investigative unit that was supposed to clarify this matter dissolved.
But these new phone records, revealed by the New York Times on April 6, 2026, change the game: seven calls took place between Javier Milei and Mauricio Novelli, the Argentine entrepreneur behind the token, on the very night of the launch. Some before the presidential tweet, some after. The content of these conversations remains unknown, but the mere fact that they occurred is enough to reignite the investigation and weaken the president's position.
The file does not stop there. WhatsApp messages retrieved from Mauricio Novelli's phone refer to "the usual 2,000 for Milei," which would be a "salary" paid monthly at the time when Javier Milei was still a deputy, between 2021 and 2023. A private entrepreneur would have thus compensated an elected official... Another message, from April 2024, mentions "the 4,000 to give to Karina," likely referring to the president's sister, Karina Milei, who heads the general secretariat of the presidency.
An agreement for 5 million dollars?
Among the seized documents, there is also a draft agreement for 5 million dollars, which would be related to the public promotion of $LIBRA by Javier Milei. Hayden Davis, the American consultant who also participated in the launch of Melania Trump's memecoin, is mentioned in this document. In November 2025, an Argentine federal judge ordered the freezing of 507,000 dollars in assets belonging precisely to Hayden Davis as part of the same investigation.
Mauricio Novelli, for his part, disputes the validity of the evidence that came from his phone: he suggests that it could have been manipulated during his custody. Thus, his lawyer, Daniel Rubinovich, requested the court to exclude all this data from the file.
🗞️ Up to 5 million dollars to tweet about LIBRA? Javier Milei is implicated by new revelations
But for Maximiliano Ferraro, opposition deputy who led the parliamentary committee on the subject, it is clear that these are real pieces of evidence:
"The launch and promotion of $LIBRA were not improvised at all by the president. It was a planned, coordinated, and deliberately executed operation."
