After unilaterally bombing continuously for months, turning southern Lebanon into a pile of rubble with numerous civilian casualties and devastated infrastructure, Israel suddenly became "very willing" to sit down for direct negotiations with Lebanon for the first time in over 40 years.
Lebanon has mostly... been silent, with little strong resistance, only able to take the blows and call for a ceasefire. Now Israel says: "Well, let's talk peace, but it has to be on my terms – Hezbollah must disarm completely, while I retain the right to 'self-defense' whenever I want to drop a few more bombs just to be sure."
This is indeed the style of Israeli diplomacy: Beat them down first, and then sit at the table for "humanitarian ceasefire"
