#KelpDAOExploitFreeze is a brutal reminder that cross-chain complexity kills. On April 18, hackers spoofed LayerZero messaging and drained ∼116,500 rsETH, roughly $292M, from Kelp DAO’s bridge. It’s the largest DeFi exploit of 2026. The attacker used unbacked rsETH to borrow real ETH on Aave V3, Compound, and Euler, creating $236M+ in bad debt. Kelp froze contracts and Aave halted rsETH markets within an hour. Nine+ protocols were hit. When one bridge fails, all of DeFi feels it.
