⚠️ ALERT: Litecoin ($LTC ) Network Update & Security Insight
Important update regarding the recent MWEB (Mimblewimble Extension Blocks) vulnerability exploit in the Litecoin network.
What happened?
Taking advantage of a zero-day vulnerability, attackers forced older mining nodes to accept invalid MWEB transactions. This resulted in a chain reorganization (from block 3,095,930 to 3,095,943) in the network, leading to unauthorized peg-outs and misuse of funds.
Impact:
According to Alex Shevchenko, CEO of Aurora Labs, attackers used this vulnerability to perform double-spending attacks on cross-chain swap protocols. This also affected NEAR Intents, where exposure is estimated at approximately $600,000.
Current Status:
✅ The Litecoin Foundation has confirmed that the vulnerability has been fully patched and the erroneous transactions have been removed.
⚠️ Despite this, some trading venues have reported financial losses.
