Here is the simplest way I can explain the difference between spot and futures for a beginner, in spot trading if you buy a coin and the price drops by 30% you have lost 30%, that hurts but you still have 70% left and time to recover.

In futures trading if you buy with 10x leverage and the price drops by 10% you have lost everything, zero left, no time to recover, no second chance, that is the difference and it is not a small one.
