The new guy is worlds apart from the past; science and technology have flipped the script on a lot, but some things still haven't changed. Humans are always on the hunt for money and the fear of the future—wanting to know what's next. Sometimes they look to the stars, other times they dabble in numerology, or even get a reading from someone. There's a Mexican-British philosopher, Carisa Valis, who says that artificial intelligence is the Oracle of Delphi of the modern world. Now, we all know the Oracle of Delphi was an ancient Greek temple where kings would go before waging war or dealing with their empires, and regular folks would visit to get a glimpse of their fate. The high priestess there would deliver her prophecies in a vague and mysterious way. Thousands of years have passed, yet our fear of the unknown and the anxiety about knowing the future remain intact. The difference is, instead of temples, we have screens now. Previously, people were told about the unknown through different means; now we have pattern recognition, statistical analysis, and complex algorithms doing the heavy lifting. Humanity has definitely journeyed from the Stone Age to the modern world, but we still haven't conquered ourselves. Ahmad Javed says that the knowledge we possess is as vast as the desert, yet we don’t even know as much as a single speck. We've traveled the outside world and learned about it, but we still don't know ourselves. We aren't searching for the paths leading inward, and perhaps that's why the times keep changing while our fears and questions remain the same.
