The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has announced a new regulatory framework for prediction markets, specifying the types of bets that are allowed and prohibited.
🚫 New prohibitions include:
🔹 Bets related to wars, terrorism, or assassinations.
🔹 Markets concerning the isolation or removal of foreign leaders from power, like the $14 million bet on Iran on the Polymarket platform, unless the outcome is strictly linked to a peaceful exit.
🔹 Some sports bets like player injuries, referee decisions, and fight outcomes.
✅ Allowed:
🔹 Election markets are not classified as gambling under the new proposal.
🔹 Some total sports outcome markets get the green light.
⏳ The sector has 45 days to provide feedback before the final rules are adopted.
