๐งพ Summary
Telegram is proposing to rename the native token of The Open Network, Toncoin, to Gram, and to change its ticker symbol from TON to GRAM.
This is just a name and symbol change. The blockchain remains unchanged: it retains its name TON / The Open Network. No swaps, migrations, bridges, claims, or conversions are taking place. Your balance, address, contract, and position stay the same. A balance of 10 TON simply becomes 10 GRAM.
๐ก Motivation
As part of the MTONGA initiative (Make TON Great Again), we propose to rename the native token Toncoin to Gram. This change reflects a true evolution of TON, on two mutually reinforcing fronts.
The first change is structural. Telegram becomes the engine of TON and the main validator of the network. This leadership change gives a new rhythm and direction to the technical roadmap.
The second improvement is protocol-related. Recent updates have boosted network speed tenfold, with transactions under a second, and reduced fees by about six times, bringing them to nearly zero, while emphasizing technical excellence.
Together, these changes mark a significant milestone for the network and an ideal opportunity to rethink the public naming of the token. In the original TON white paper, the network's founders named it Gram. This name has remained since then in the source code of TON. By making it public today, the network embarks on a new chapter.
This change is not a technical update of the blockchain:
The blockchain keeps the name TON / The Open Network.
Only the name (Toncoin โ Gram) and the symbol (TON โ GRAM) of the native token are changing.

The entire process is designed to be completed within three weeks after the vote opens.
1. Vote
Duration: Week 1 (7 days)
The community votes on TON Vote.
2. Deployment
Duration: Weeks 2 to 3 (14 days)
If the vote passes (more than 50% 'For' votes), all platforms should complete the transition within two weeks after the vote closes, so that within three weeks of the vote opening, the name and ticker symbol are consistently updated across the ecosystem โ wallets, explorers, exchanges, and partners.
๐ณ๏ธ Voting process
We propose the following sequence of actions and timeline:
The voting takes place over one week. The weight of the vote is calculated based on each voter's TON balance as of May 31, 2026, at 00:00 UTC. Tokens acquired later are not counted in the vote weight calculation.
Voting is done via the smart contracts of one of the largest open DAO platforms on TON โ TON Vote.
