World Cup, it's more than just football

The quadrennial football extravaganza is back. To be honest, the World Cup has long ceased to be just a sports event for me.

I still remember that summer of 2018, waking up at 3 AM to catch the final. My eyelids were heavy, but the moment Mbappé sprinted with the ball, I was instantly awake. That adrenaline rush is unforgettable to this day.

The allure of the World Cup lies in its ability to unite the world, allowing everyone to cheer for the same goal, even if they usually don’t follow the game. People who rarely watch football gather around the BBQ stalls, banging the table in excitement for a goal. Colleagues who usually don’t say much at work can get into heated debates about last night’s match.

This is football, this is the World Cup. It brings people together, creating countless shared memories.

Some say life is just a few World Cups. When you think about it, it’s true. From staying up late during student days to now watching with my kids, each World Cup marks different stages of our lives.

The 2026 World Cup in the US, Canada, and Mexico is on the horizon, featuring 48 teams, new formats, and fresh stories. I'm already looking forward to it.
