🇯🇵🚨 JAPAN HIT BY 7.6 MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKE AND TSUNAMI AT THIS MOMENT
⚠️ A powerful earthquake of magnitude 7.6 has just struck the northeast coast of Japan just hours ago, triggering tsunami alerts and immediate evacuation orders. The quake occurred at 11:15 PM local time on Monday, December 8 (9:15 AM Eastern Time, USA) with an epicenter 50 kilometers offshore from the coast of Aomori, the northernmost prefecture of the main island Honshu.
🌊 Tsunami waves have already impacted the coast. The Japan Meteorological Agency confirmed tsunamis of 70 centimeters at the port of Kuji in Iwate Prefecture, and waves of 40-50 centimeters in Aomori and Hokkaido. Authorities warn that waves could rise to 3 meters in height in the coming hours. The government issued evacuation orders for coastal areas of Hokkaido, Aomori, and Iwate, urging residents to seek higher ground immediately.
Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has established an emergency task force and declared: "We are putting people's lives first and doing everything possible." More than 36,000 households have lost electricity in the affected prefectures. Residents report violent tremors lasting 30 seconds that made it impossible to stand.
