Not long after, we heard that a hospital was gearing up to roll out a new management system. Even though we were total noobs in the healthcare sector, we were keen to dive in and give it a shot.
The hospital bigwig was a heavy drinker. At dinner, he brought out two bottles of Maotai like it was a high-stakes trade. My foreign colleague and I weren’t really into baijiu, but we knew this was part of the hustle in business. We got schooled in the art of persuasion through drinking for the first time and were totally thrown off our game.
A couple of hours later, no one could recall the serious matters at hand. I hazily settled the tab, and we stumbled out to grab a taxi. Once the cab hit the inner ring elevated road, we couldn’t shake the queasiness. We quickly rolled down the windows on both sides and let it all out all the way through the night. That night, we left our “mark” in Shanghai.
Even though we went hard on the drinks, we still didn’t clinch that project...
