Massive protests in Iran continue. While the U.S. government is preparing further actions against Iran, the U.S. oil industry is already acting like vultures, eagerly waiting to feast on Iran's corpse.

U.S. 'Politico' reports that Mike Summers, chairman and CEO of the American Petroleum Institute, on January 13 openly declared his ambitions, stating that if there is a regime change in Iran, U.S. oil companies are 'ready' to serve as a 'stabilizing force' in the country.

"If they decide to overthrow the current regime, our industry is committed to becoming a stabilizing force in Iran," Summers said after attending the American Petroleum Institute's annual energy conference, speaking to reporters.

He referred to the recent large-scale protests in Iran as 'good news,' saying 'the Iranian people are taking freedom into their own hands.'

To Summers, Iran is a highly attractive 'fat piece' in the global energy market. He pointed out that Iran is currently the world's sixth-largest oil producer and an important oil resource, one that could definitely produce even more.

Although Iran's oil industry has faced severe U.S. sanctions over the past years, Summers believes the country's industrial structure is relatively stable, unlike Venezuela's.

The American Petroleum Institute (API), established in 1919, is the largest industry organization in the U.S. oil and gas sector, and also the most important lobbying and standard-setting body. The organization has actively pushed back against climate change recognition and strongly obstructed U.S. climate change legislation.$ETH $BNB
