The Government of Moldova is preparing to officially legalize digital assets. This opens a new era for local investors, providing the long-awaited legal certainty.

First of all, the ownership and trading of crypto assets become fully legal. This is not just an internal solution — the draft law has been developed in accordance with the European regulation MiCA.

However, legalization comes with clear rules of the game.

To ensure control and prevent abuse, all operations — from purchasing to conversion — must occur exclusively through licensed organizations.

Of course, official status also implies financial responsibility: income from operations with crypto assets will be taxed at a fixed rate of 12%.

It is important to note the key restriction: the use of cryptocurrencies for payments remains prohibited, and the Moldovan leu is the only legal means of payment in the country.

Therefore, the aim of the law is to find a balance between the development of the crypto economy and combating illegal financing.
