I would build a new model for the country. I wouldn't invent it from scratch, but I would do what a good engineer does: I would take the most solid and proven pieces from other nations, adjust them to our reality, and assemble them into a powerful and just social machine.
Imagine a "Guarantor State" that functions like a responsible father or mother. Its first duty would be to ensure that every citizen, from birth to death, has four fundamental pillars, not as a favor, but as an unquestionable right:
1. The Key to a Home: As in Vienna, where social rent is dignified and common. No one would live in fear of ending up on the street.
2. The Solid Base Basket: Like the Canadian or Brazilian network that combats hunger, but going further: robust public health and guaranteed nutrition so that people not only survive but also have health to thrive.
3. The Passport to the Future: An education like that of Finland or Singapore, which combines critical thinking with practical technical training (the German dual model), so that every young person finishes school with real tools for life and work.
4. The Connection to the Digital Age: As in Estonia, where the internet is a public right. Every family would have access to the network and basic energy, to study, work, and connect.
But a responsible father does not only give; he also teaches to fish and cares for the common home. Therefore, the economic heart of this government would be a "Regenerative Economy," inspired by the European Green Deal.
· It would be financed with justice: Following the Nordic example, those who have more and those who pollute more (with taxes on wealth and carbon) would contribute more to sustain these guarantees. Taxes on labor and local production would be reduced.
· It would create wealth from what is today waste: As done in the Netherlands or Denmark, we would organize "productive circuits" where the waste from one factory becomes the raw material for another. This would generate green jobs (recycling, repair, logistics) and clean the environment.
· I would bet on our talents: As Uruguay did with technology, we would identify two or three sectors where we excel (e.g., clean energy, sustainable agribusiness, software) and turn them into export engines, funded by a public development bank.
The key would not be to copy, but to weave. The magic would happen in the connections:
· Social housing would be built with recycled materials from the circular economy.
· Well-nourished children from these homes would study in technical schools linked to new green industries.
· All public management would be transparent and digital, as in Estonia, so that any citizen could follow on an app how each peso of their taxes is used, building a trust similar to that of Nordic countries.
Implementation would be step by step, firm and clear. First, the most urgent: the food and health network. Then, housing and connectivity, while the first circular projects that generate savings start. Finally, with a stable base, the great educational reform would be launched to train the first fully capable generation of this new social pact.
In essence, it would be a pragmatically idealistic government. With feet on the ground, looking at what has indeed worked in the world, but with the soul set on a higher goal: transforming the right to dream into a tangible basis for living. It would not promise miracles, but a well-designed system, where each piece, taken from the best of humanity, would fit together to build a homeland where poverty is finally a relic of the past.
