#walrus $WAL A walrus is a large marine mammal that lives in the cold Arctic regions near the North Pole. It is easily recognized by its long, white tusks, thick whiskers called vibrissae, and a heavy, wrinkled body covered with tough skin. Walruses spend most of their lives in icy ocean waters, but they often come onto ice floes or rocky shores to rest and socialize in groups. They are excellent swimmers and use their strong flippers to move through water and ice. Walruses mainly feed on clams, snails, and other small sea animals found on the ocean floor, using their sensitive whiskers to locate food. Despite their large size and powerful appearance, walruses are generally calm and social animals.
