India–EU Diplomatic Push: Strengthening Strategic Partnership (Current News)

India and the European Union are intensifying diplomatic engagement ahead of a key summit in New Delhi later this month, highlighting a major push to deepen bilateral ties on trade, security, and global stability. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met EU ambassadors to underscore that stronger India–EU relations can “de-risk” the global economy by building resilient supply chains, expanding trade and mobility ties, and enhancing cooperation on security and defence amid rising geopolitical volatility.

European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen are set to visit India for Republic Day celebrations and the India–EU Summit on January 27, where leaders are expected to announce the conclusion of a long-awaited Free Trade Agreement (FTA).

In parallel, a new security and defence partnership is moving forward, signalling a strategic pivot as both sides respond to global uncertainties and seek to reinforce a rules-based international order through enhanced cooperation.
