Brazil sells US$ 61 billion in U.S. treasury securities, buys gold, and advances with de-dollarization.
🇧🇷BRASÍLIA – The Central Bank of Brazil (BC) featured this week one of the most expressive movements in its recent history in managing international reserves. Preliminary data indicate that the monetary authority disposed of approximately US$ 61 billion in U.S. Treasury securities (Treasuries), reallocating a large part of this capital into the physical purchase of gold and in assets of other strong currencies.
The maneuver signals a concrete advance in the strategy of "de-dollarization" of the Brazilian economy, a theme that has been gaining strength in the debates of the BRICS bloc and in the foreign policy of the federal government.
