Many newbies think futures trading is just gambling, but they don’t realize that originally, futures were designed to hedge and protect asset value.
For example, if you think BNB is undervalued, you buy it. But if the market turns bad, how do you prevent your portfolio from losing value? It’s simple: you short the same amount of BNB you hold. Or depending on your risk appetite, you can short 1/2 or 1/3 instead.
That way:
• If BNB drops, your short position offsets the loss → your total asset value stays roughly unchanged.
• If you only hedge partially (1/2 or 1/3), you still retain 1/2 or 2/3 of the upside if the market goes up.
(I’m using BNB as an example because its funding rate is close to zero, and the BNB/USDC pair often has zero trading fees for makers.)
