U.S. President Donald Trump has once again claimed that he helped stop fighting between India and Pakistan, saying his intervention saved millions of lives and calling it an âhonour.â
đ€ Addressing an event in Florida on Friday (January 16, 2026), Mr. Trump said the United States brokered several peace agreements within a year and asserted that Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif personally credited him with saving at least 10 million lives by halting the Indo-Pak conflict.
đŁïž âPakistan and India, they were going at it â I ended the war,â Mr. Trump said.
âIn less than a year, we made eight peace deals and ended the war in Gaza. We have peace in the Middle East. Nobody thought that was going to be possible,â he added.
âąïž Mr. Trump further claimed that Washington played a key role in defusing tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.
đŁïž âWe stopped India and Pakistan from fighting â two nuclear nations. The Pakistani Prime Minister said, âDonald Trump saved at least 10 million people.â And it was amazing, and itâs an honour,â he said.
đ Repeated Claims
Mr. Trump has repeatedly asserted that he was instrumental in ending hostilities between India and Pakistan last year. He has made the claim around 80 times since May 10, when he announced on social media that both countries had agreed to a âfull and immediateâ ceasefire following what he described as a âlong nightâ of talks allegedly mediated by the U.S.
đźđł Indiaâs Position
India has consistently rejected any third-party mediation in its relations with Pakistan, maintaining that all issues between the two countries must be resolved bilaterally.
đïž Mr. Trump has also said on multiple occasions that Mr. Sharif, who visited the White House last year, acknowledged his role in preventing large-scale casualties during the period of heightened tensions.
