Saylor's wordplay: "Never sell" is never about the company.
On June 12, Strategy founder Michael Saylor responded to the "sell Bitcoin" controversy:
"What I’m telling you is to never sell your own Bitcoin; I never mentioned that the company can’t sell Bitcoin."
(I said "you" never sell your Bitcoin. I never said "the company" would not sell Bitcoin.)
He added: "Anyone who’s listened to our earnings calls, checked out our disclosure documents, or has a bit of sense knows — we’ve always been clear, the company will certainly sell Bitcoin when necessary."
Translation:
- For retail investors: HODL until death, faith recharge
- For companies: Sell when needed, finances come first
This isn’t a double standard; these are two different games. Retail investors play for faith, while companies play for the balance sheet.
When Strategy actually starts to sell BTC, I hope you remember this statement today.
