El próximo papa sabrá sobre bitcoin
Es probable que el próximo papa no solo sepa sobre bitcoin, sino que también entienda por qué existe y por qué es necesario.
El papa León XIV, antes conocido como Robert Prevost, acaba de comenzar su pontificado. Con 69 años al momento de su elección y teniendo en cuenta la esperanza de vida actual, es razonable suponer que podría conducir la Iglesia Católica durante alrededor de dos décadas, si la salud lo acompaña.
Eso nos lleva a imaginar un futuro no tan lejano, alrededor del año 2045, en el que un nuevo papa sea elegido. Y si el mundo sigue la dirección en la que avanza hoy, es inevitable plantearse algo que hoy quizás suena a herejía para algunos, pero a simple proyección para quienes seguimos de cerca las transformaciones económicas y tecnológicas: el próximo papa sabrá sobre Bitcoin.
León XIV no ha dicho una sola palabra sobre criptomonedas ni sobre bitcoin. Ni falta que hace: tiene otras prioridades como la inteligencia artificial, la ética digital, el tr
abajo y la evangelización en sociedades secularizadas que ya ha dejado claras en sus primeros discursos.
Esa omisión a bitcoin por parte del sumo pontífice es también una señal de época. Estamos en un momento histórico en el que todavía es posible, desde el liderazgo religioso más influyente del mundo, mirar hacia otro lado cuando se habla de dinero descentralizado, inflación estructural o colapso del sistema fíat.
Pero esa ventana se está cerrando. Quien asuma el papado dentro de aproximadamente 20 años no podrá ignorar el tema. Para entonces, bitcoin probablemente habrá dejado de ser una novedad o un instrumento especulativo, y se habrá consolidado como columna vertebral —o, al menos, una parte sumamente importante— de una nueva arquitectura financiera.
